About This Game Matchy Star is a twist on the classic match 3 game style where players must collect matches based on the ships' pre-set path. A vast galaxy to explore, all the way from Star Base to the legendary Xanadu with 46 levels throughout 11 systems, and colorful little stars derping all over the place. The game includes 30 items with a hundred different stat boosts to collect for your bubbly and swanky ships: Zippy, Skippy, and Bob. They're fancy and special, so they need their proper swag.Zippy, Skippy, and Bob are not alone! They have the help of 7 rocket surgeon stars, supporting them along the way: Matchy Star, Spacey Galaxy, Speedy Sputnik, Doctor UFO, Guru Moon, and Pirate Planet. These familiar faces are from Matchy's Kooky Cookies and MatchyGotchy, and they are coming back to the rescue. Help Matchy Star complete all these puzzle challenges and make it all the way to Xanadu, because last time he was there he forgot his wallet. It is time to get your Matchy on!Meet The ShipsTo reach Xanadu, Matchy Star has taken up the help of his three most efficient ships: Zippy, Skippy and Bob. The three ships must meticulously follow their flight plan based on the available path, extending their range with the help of the stars they collect along the way. In order to move forward, you must match as many stars as possible in the ship's flight path. The faster you string gigantic matches together the better. Zippy is the largest and slowest ship, but he makes up for it by baking the best cookies ever. Skippy is mid-sized and goes second, holding the record for eating the most cookies under a minute. Bob is the smallest and fastest, and for some unknown reason he likes burnt cookies. However quirky their relationship with cookies might be, they all agree in their love of wearing items that helps them improve their stats. Get yourself a crown, a monocle, a beard and a sword! Turn your ship into the most stylish cool kid in the galaxy. You can collect special power ups too, which provide important help to your space exploring efficiency. The number of victory stars you collect throughout each level determines their power level including: gem score bonuses, speed regulation, fuel consumption and buffer alerts. Advanced levels can get a bit difficult, so items and power ups can make a difference. If you enjoyed MatchyGotchy and Matchy's Kooky Cookies, then we invite you come along with Matchy Star once more into the game that gave birth to this new colorful world.Matchy Star is an original game by Silverware Games bringing a world of cuteness, random silliness, and interactive fun. We welcome you in this journey along with us, and invite you to make yourself comfortable and enjoy the fun.Thank you for playing! Matchy Star Download] [portable Edition] Designing the One and Only Matchy: Creating an original character felt like I had to create an entire universe, but really it was just one star. The literal first thing I did on this project was come up with the name Matchy Star. I knew I wanted to do something Sci-Fi, and I knew I wanted a main character that would stand out and really be able to get people behind him. So, the first character I designed was a star shape based on a number of sources. The process for how I did it was complicated:The initial star shape for Matchy was a little off set for its perspective and based on the classic Nintendo star icon shape. I wanted an exuberant face and I always had the old meme emoji “Exuberant Bliss” stuck in my head, so I sort of fused the two together. The Nintendo star is a bit less expressive because its not supposed to outshine Mario, but for the Matchyverse, Matchy needed to really be an expressive exuberant character that would communicate with players the feelings that the series is supposed to evoke. Next, I added a black outline that was again not perfectly aligned to add some character. This style of cartoony outline was inspired by the sort of offset lines in Angry Birds. For the next iteration I added some hair and a bit of a sense of vanity and ego that comes with having great hair. This could only mean one source of inspiration, Johnny Bravo:Of course, as the creative director, I had intended Matchy to have shades. Later iterations would change them to goggles and remove the hair which was sort of a compromise with the people on the team – and Jimp, the artist who did the final designs of Matchy. I don’t like being too firm in imposing my creative direction on the team because it sort of becomes more of a creative dictatorship, and I understand that the team has a say in these things too but here is the SHADE version of Matchy:I did a lot of iterations that involved small tweaks to shapes and shading, but idk where the files went even though I intended to save them. Some of the details were so small even we have a hard time noticing them, sometimes the changes were big and obvious. Designing takes a lot of small tweaks and iterations and sadly a lot of those details will be forever lost. To some extent each change almost felt like aliens were contacting me to help me design the character. Sometimes I’d make a change and have an itch or hear a noise and it would make me think about modifying that change even more. It was sort of surreal to put together the character and I went through 12 iterations that all had differences. And I suppose no one can escape Simpsons Mania, so I decided to add a nice set of blue pants to complete the look:Of course it would take even more work to get the final versions of everything, but this is how the whole thing started. We eventually hired Jimp from Massive Monster, and he added his own lick of paint. We defined the style of eyes and lines based on some feedback from our mailing list from a bunch of options Jimp presented. We also discussed the idea of making Matchy a wizard or redefining the character, but I added some more references to the list to cement the direction including Sponge Bob, Andy the Mechanic from Advance wars, and other spacey characters to define the final direction as an enthusiastic derpy goofball scientist and as a result we got even more iterations:It really took a phenomenal amount of work to design this character even though it might seem sort of obvious now that Matchy already exists. I know that Matchy seems like a very clear cohesive simple character, but it was not at all obvious or clear on how to land at this end result, it took a lot of work!https://store.steampowered.com/app/782430/Matchy_Star/. Matchy Star Systems: Matchy Star is a match 3 puzzle game with a Match-Them-All design. We have talked about concept and gameplay so far, now let’s revise the design so far for the map.Matchy Star main map is called the Alpha System and there are 11 important areas to explore. Each area has levels, some have few, some have many – difficulty varies according to the grid and the specific pathways given. There is also another important factor to consider, that will add to the scenarios – which is called Speed. There are three ships to use: Zippy, Skippy and Bob – they move from tile to tile collecting matches in each level. The arrows on the grid tell the 3 Ships what direction to move in, they will always follow the directions of the arrows on the grid but on each level it takes different amounts of time for the ships to progress from tile to tile. At the top of the level you can see the speeds for all 3 ships. This speed determines the time it takes for each ship to move 1 tile. I wanted to include the rate at which the ships moved and tweak it on difficulty, for that I came up with a simple math take on this to assign a variable that describes speed. Taking the number 10 as a base number, an even natural number that is easy to utilize becomes the dividend to determine the speed quotient. You divide 10 with a divisor that determines the difficulty, meaning 10/10 will result in 1 second for a ship to move from tile to tile. Something like 10/20 means it will take a half second to move from tile to tile. The formula for calculating how long each tile takes is: 10/Speed = Seconds Needed To Visit Each TileAs an example, if the speed is 15 then it will take 10/15 or 667 milliseconds for the ship to move from one tile to the next. So the numbers you see on each map will explain the speed of the puzzle, it varies at different points. This is the current design of the game. It might change based on player feedback and tweaks! We might revise how to display this information to make it more user friendly in game, but the important thing to take away from this is : the higher the divisor, the faster the ship goes – it adds challenge.Matchy Star 11 Star Systems:1) Alpha System:This is the basic tutorial system with 2 levels based on Earth and Mars. In these levels the “breaks are on” meaning that the ships will wait until you move a gem to progress making it much easier to think about what move you want to make. Also in these levels only Zoot drops in the bubbles to collect. There are two levels in Alpha System.2) Starbase:We designed five levels for Starbase. This is the home base of MatchyGotchy and you can still see earth from here. The special tiles in this level affect the ship's speed. Sometimes the tiles slow down the ships and sometimes the tiles speed the ships up. This means you have to get very big matches when the ship is moving slowly and you need to try to survive when the ship is going fast. (The double fast forward arrow speeds up the ship and the line and triangle slow icon slows the ships.)3) Asteroid:These are three levels in Asteroid, these levels are just changes in the grid and have no special tiles. While this provides interesting paths to deal with for each level, difficultly allows for you to enjoy doing the most matches and hunting for items to collect.4) Red Giant:This introduces the "Split" tiles which randomly choose between two paths when the ship hits the splitter. This means players will have to plan ahead to deal with the random path in case the ship goes the wrong way. In the image below the split tile is in the middle right with the up and down arrows. When the ship reaches the split it might loop back around the top of the screen or head to the flag at the bottom. Red Giant has five levels.5) Asteroid II:Another set of levels based on different movement patterns without any special tiles, allowed for a quick rest stop and accumulating matches and items. There are three levels just like Asteroid I, this set of levels has a fast ship speed so you have to set up the matches quickly or get an item to slow your ships down.6) Black Hole:Black Hole has three levels. These levels involve missing pieces from the game grid and require moving the Stars around the holes so you have to plan how to organize the different paths the Stars take. This will require extra strategy in logical thinking trying organize big matches and harder work to find bonuses.7) Gemini:In the Gemini system you will find five levels and Zippy, Skippy, and Bob have split into doubles. This means you have to keep two ships fueled through the level at once. The ships move a bit slower here to help deal with the issues of fueling two ships at once. Also if two ships hit a match at the same time they both get the fuel for it and its double score.8) Nova:When your ships hit a nova tile they collect all the matches that exist on screen even if they aren't near your ship. This means you can get a big score by building matches anywhere for the nova tiles. Pathway and grid design demands for a different strategy in finding ways to clump up your matches. In Nova there are five levels.9) Constellation:The constellation involves complex paths and requires a very high score to proceed. True test of logistics and strategy - speed will grant you time, but pathway will work against you. Ideally, matches would not be complicated as long as you familiarize with the pathway to optimize your chances.10) Nebula:The Nebula has a combination of different tiles from the previous systems. Difficulty will peak on speed, making conscious choices of your path important to not run out of fuel. There are five levels in Nebula, and the variations from these make for a different difficulty set to tackle.11) Xanadu:There are five levels in Xanadu. These levels have combinations of special tiles in the same level. For example, in this one, there are splitters and speed changers meaning there is a random chance the ships will move faster or slower. These levels require a lot of item buffs to be able to do or a ton of skill. Itemization at the end of the game is quite important because it will allow the player to turn these things that might work against them as part of their skills to complete these match 3 puzzles. All of this has been coded in the game already, we are still working on the itemization and system bonuses - also, redefining UI changes to make it easier more user friendly. So expect some changes included in the final build.Matchy Star is still in development and you can support us by wishlisting the game right here on Steam ~☆ https://store.steampowered.com/app/782430/Matchy_Star/. Matchy Star World: We previously talked about Matchy Star being a Match-Them-All twist on a Match 3 design, this time around we explore on the components that integrates the main content: the mechanic how it works, along with its elements dynamic. Most Match 3 often define gameplay by arranging different grids, including challenges as you progress through levels. This design idea encourages collecting identical matches throughout a board, making it somewhat random and repetitive. Players often admit this is what makes the experience without any incentive, considering it’s a random chance of luck to pair up matches – which most developer tend to facilitate by limiting tiles or elements on the tile.In Matchy Star there are multiple elements to consider into the Match-Them-All mechanic. First we have a square grid of 9 x 9, a total of seven stars – the base of the match 3 design; now incorporating new elements into the mix, we have the ships and the paths which can go through different challenges as we move forward through the levels. Mixing all of these elements together, we have a dynamic grid that will change in different shapes including different ship pathways to provide as many possible matches to be done with any of the seven stars spread out throughout the grid.Click here to watch the video example of this There is itemization to consider too, there will be items that drop on the board and items to be found at the shop. Items on the boards are considered somewhat of a loot drop, ideally mostly cosmetic items. There will also be items you can buy, which will provide for random stats that can help you advance through areas much easier. So far we have included items that will feature speed, this will make the ship go at a different speed to help you make more matches without running out of fuel. There are also specific ones that will only trigger time assistance when you’re almost out of fuel, giving you a saving grace to recoup and find last minute matches to continue. More features include color bonuses, it gives a particular boost to the matches of the gems selected – providing for more money at the end. And also, fuel efficiency boosts making you spend less fuel as you make more moves. Some of these items will become important at some areas where the challenges in time and pathways become difficult enough for you to require a bit of help to get through them. Time is a variable that comes along with fuel and and speed efficiency of the ships, which is why it takes the player to strategize and consider itemization part of their planning while doing matches.Matchy Star has 11 Star Systems and each system has its own set of items and its own set of item powers it assigns randomly to the item. The items drop in bubbles and when you match them they go over to your item storage section on the right of the screen. Once you have 3 items, any additional items bump your oldest one meaning in each level you can only collect 3 items tops. Also one item is just a bundle of cash that can be used to buy upgrades at the shop.Along this match 3 gameplay mechanics, there is more to discover from Matchy Star. By clearing levels you also get to discover more of the Matchyverse, and ultimately unlock characters that you can play with by the end of it (and that change the game dynamic). There is a garage shop in which you get to interact with the ships as if they were your pets, MatchyGotchy style – a lot of different layers that come together for the Matchy Star experience.Matchy Star is still in development and you can support us by wishlisting the game right here on Steam ~☆ https://store.steampowered.com/app/782430/Matchy_Star/
